FAQs
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out before starting therapy. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, struggling in a relationship, navigating a major change, or simply wanting to understand yourself or your family better, therapy may be helpful.
Do I have to talk about things I’m not ready to talk about?
No. Trust takes time, and therapy should move at a pace that feels manageable. We can work on building safety and coping skills before exploring more difficult experiences.
Will parents be involved in their child’s therapy?
Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child’s support system. The amount and type of parent involvement will depend on the child’s age, needs, goals, and circumstances. We’ll talk together about what involvement will be most helpful.
What if I don’t like my therapist?
That matters! Therapy works best when you feel comfortable enough to be honest. If something about our work isn’t feeling right, I encourage you to bring it up. Sometimes talking about what isn’t working can actually become an important part of therapy. And sometimes another therapist really is a better fit.
What makes Phoenix Restorative Therapy different?
Therapy shouldn’t feel like being handed a checklist of things to fix. At Phoenix Restorative Therapy, we start with curiosity, compassion, and the belief that you are the expert on your own life.
We take the time to understand the whole person—not just the problem that brought you to therapy. We’ll look at your strengths, relationships, experiences, and the patterns that may be getting in the way of the life or connections you want.
Our approach is collaborative, practical, and individualized. For children and teens, that may mean play, art, games, or talking about Minecraft; for adults, it may mean exploring patterns, building new skills, or making space for experiences that have been difficult to understand. Therapy may draw from approaches such as ACT, CBT, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, or exposure-based work, depending on what fits you.
Most importantly, Phoenix is a space where you can show up as yourself. We strive to create an environment that is LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming, inclusive of different family and relationship structures, and grounded in respect for each person's individual identity and experiences.
